TFCommenter lets you add TeleFinder file comments to any file that isn’t an application. It also allows you to add comments to self-extracting archives created by Compact Pro, StuffIt, and Disk Doubler. TeleFinder file comments are limited to 255 characters, so TFCommenter keeps a running count of how many characters you’ve typed and prevents you from typing too many.
Of course! By popular request, the text font and size are now editable—if you open TFCommenter with ResEdit, you’ll find a 'STR#' resource with an ID of 128, which you can edit to your heart’s content. The 'STR#' resource with an ID of 129 is the size of the box containing the comment text. You can change this if you like, but you shouldn’t have to since it duplicates the size of the box TeleFinder/User.
If you’re using System 7, you can drag any number of files over TFCommenter’s icon in the Finder and TFCommenter will open them all. If you’re not using System 7, you should be.
One of the things I don’t like about the present version of TFCommenter is that you can’t edit your comments down to 255 characters. I’m planning to add a general text editor, with a character counter, with which you could open a “Read me” or doc file, edit it until you have what you want, and then save the comments. My usual procedure now is to open the “Read me” file with another text editor, edit it, and then paste into TFCommenter, which isn’t especially convenient.
I’m open to suggestions for other features that you would like to see in a TeleFinder sysop utility, not necessarily limited to file commenting. I can be reached on America Online, where my screen name is “Slimm.”
